Bengali settlers attack on indigenous Jummas in Rangamati - in pictures

Army led by warrant office Md. Omar attacked Jumma houses in Kallayanpur area at around mid day on 22nd September. They were throwing brick-bats at Jumma peoples and their houses.

At one stage when military attacked Jumma houses in Kallayanpur area, chairman of Rangamati Regional Council; Shantu Larma came out of his residence to ask the reason of attacking. Instead of listening to him, warrant officer Md. Omar misbehaved with him and they continued beating and throwing brick-bats at Jumma peoples and their houses.

Settler people vandalized Banarupa Bazar (market). Saturday is the market day for Banarupa Bazar, where indigenous peoples from different far away places come to sell their Jum (Shifting Cultivated) crops. Bengali settlers intentionally attacked the market place, as they know Saturday is the day when most number of Jumma peoples come to the market.

Following the attack, the Jumma students living in capital city Dhaka, arranged a peaceful demonstration against communal attacks made by Bengali settlers on Jumma peoples.
