A TEENAGE Jumma girl was subjected to a rape attempt in Batnatali under Manikchari Upazila of Khagrachari district on 1 August, according to sources.

The 12-year old from Marma community was on her way to Batnatoli Bazaar along with two other children when a settler youth stood in their way and attempted to rape her.

When she screamed, the culprit let go of her and fled away.

The victim is a fourth grade student in Chempru Para Government Primary School.

‘She just came from school after attending an exam, had her meals and then set out for the Bazaar to sell something.’ one of her relatives said.

‘She has been mentally devastated after the incident and she was so frightened that we could not persuade her to go to school for the exam next day.’ he added.
