Update on indigenous peoples' day celebration: police barred indigenous peoples from attending

It has been just learnt that polices have barred the vehicles carrying indigenous peoples in Mahalchari, Matiranga and Panchari upozilas (sub-districts) of Khagrachari district in the morning today (09.08.2012). They were on their way to Khagrachari district to participate in the "World Indigenous Peoples' Day" celebration, organized by Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples' Forum (BIPF). This has happened after the indigenous peoples decided to celebrate the day despite government's restriction.
