The government has taken initiatives to increase the number of BDR patrol personnel and check posts along the border at the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
A bill aiming to restructure the border security force Bangladesh Rifles has already been tabled in the parliament, the home minister, Sahara Khatun, said on Friday.
The minister was talking to reporters at a press briefing after her visit to the site of a proposed tax station, in the Thegamukh area of Rangamatis Barkal upazila and Thegamukh BDR outpost.
BDR personnel risk their lives to carry out their duties providing untiring security along the border, Sahara added. Pulse will be included in the present BDR rations.
Sahara also hoped that the government would advocate that Operation Uttaran Padak, an award currently given solely to military personnel for bravery, be given to the BDR personnel too.
After visiting the BDR camp at Sajek union under Baghaichari upazila of Rangamati, the minister distributed clothes among the destitute.
The state minister for CHT affairs, Dipangkar Talukder, BDR director general Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and home secretary Sobhan Sikder, were with the minister during the visit.
