Five PCJSS supporters killed by UPDF armed terrorists in Rangamati

On 21 January 2011 four innocent supporters of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) were killed and one kidnapped by UPDF in two different incidents in Jurachari and Kaptai sub-districts of Rangamati.
It was learnt that at around 3:00 a.m. a group of armed cadres of UPDF led by Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Barma encircled the house of Arun Chakma, UP member, Moidung Union. After ransacking his house, the UPDF miscreants kidnapped Ratan Chakma (22), s/o Hengoitta Chakma; Kala Chan Chakma (30) s/o Laxmi Moni Chakma; Santosh Kumar Chakma (33) and s/o Kum Ranjan Chakma at gun point. At the same time, Niranjay Chakma (32) s/o Bholanatha Chakma was also kidnapped from his house of Fakirachara Bastipara under Moidung union. After reaching Tarabanya Thum, the miscreants shot Ratan Chakma, Kala Chan Chakma and Niranjay Chakma to death and kept Santosh Kumar Chakma as hostage. However, Santosh Kumar Chakma is suspected to be killed by the terrorists.
In a different incident, Binod Chakma (30) a PCJSS supporter from Gobachari village under Raikhali Union in Kaptai upazila was killed by another group of UPDF miscreants. It was learnt that Binod Chakma, an inhabitant of Khagrachari district was visiting a friend’s house at Gobachari village in Raikhali Union. At around 7 a.m., when Binod Chakma was washing his face, the UPDF cadres suddenly arrived and sprayed bullets on him to death.
At around 11 a.m. PCJSS and Parbatya Chattagram Pahari Chatra Parishad (PCP) brought out a procession at Rangamati town and demanded punishment of the UPDF killers and to ban all sorts of activities of UPDF to government.
It is worth mentioning that print and electronic media reported that the PCJSS supporters were killed in the armed clash. However, this was fully fabricated.
It is mentionable that a few Jumma youths with the support of government forces formed UPDF with an aim to hinder implementation of CHT Accord signed between the government of Bangladesh and PCJSS in 1997 and to destroy the PCJSS leadership as well as to foil movement of indigenous Jumma peoples.
