Invitation to attend the public gathering for demanding constitutional recognition of indigenous peoples

April 24, 2011

Dear Madam/Sir,
Greetings from Bangladesh Adivasi Forum!
Bangladesh Adivasi Forum is going to organise a public gathering demanding “We want constitutional recognition as indigenous peoples, but not small ethnic group” on 29 April 2011 at 10.00 am at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
It is also worth mentioning that apart from including the term “adivasi” in the constitution, the rights of indigenous peoples including rights to culture, equal opportunities, self-government, participation and representation, decision-making power and rights to land and other natural resources should also receive constitutional recognition.
We have had this opportunity to receive constitutional recognition of indigenous peoples after 40 years since 1972. We should raise our strong voice supporting to constitutional recognition of fundamental rights of indigenous peoples and also as indigenous peoples.
Bangladesh Adivasi Forum urges all democratic and secular political parties, all national and international organisations working for human rights and development, women and student-youth organisations, cultural organisations, print and electronic media, indigenous communities and organisations, individuals to attend the 29 April Public Gathering with own banner, festoons and followers & forces in order to extend your solidarity and voice.
Your participation in this public gathering will strengthen the movement of indigenous peoples for constitution recognition.

Sincerely Yours
Shakti Pada Tripura
Organising Secretary
Bangladesh Adivasi Forum
